Actress Jennifer Morrison of “House M.D.” discusses her role in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.
By Paul Semel – May 31 – 2007

Celebrities who act in video games usually fall into one of three categories: gamers, relatives of gamers, or serious actors who look at games as being an interesting acting challenge. But Jennifer Morrison of the TV show “House M.D.” is in a category all her own. Though she’s excited by the idea of doing something different, and has a relative who’s into games, when we spoke to her recently about playing Captain Kirce James in Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, she also admitted, much to our delight, that she took the role because she wanted to meet girls. Which, fittingly, is why we wanted to talk to her, too.

GameSpy: How did you get the role in this game?

Jennifer Morrison: I have no idea. I was on set one day and my agent called and said they were interested in me for this role, and I was just completely up for it. I knew there were a couple actresses from “Battlestar Galactica” that were working on it, and I’m a huge fan, so I was like, “Oh, that is so, so cool. I would love to do something that they’re a part of.” But I also knew that the game was really famous for live action stuff.

GameSpy: How did you know that? Are you a big Command & Conquer fan?

Jennifer Morrison: No, I’m not a huge gamer or anything, but my brother, who’s in college, loves all that stuff, and I hear about all that stuff through him. Whenever he comes and stays with me, he always brings his consoles so he can play online.

GameSpy: So when you got offered the gig, did you call him up and ask him if you should do it?

Jennifer Morrison: No, I said “Yes” right away. Probably faster than I’ve said “Yes” to anything. To me, the idea of being part of a video game is really cool. Though I did call him afterwards to ask about the game, and he was like, “You made a good decision.”

GameSpy: Did it ever occur to you to maybe call him before you said “Yes”?

Jennifer Morrison: Yeah, I probably should have. Next time I’ll be more careful. Luckily, it worked out.

GameSpy: Is this the first role in a video game you’ve been offered?

Jennifer Morrison: Yeah, yeah. It was the first time I’ve had an opportunity to do anything with a video game. I think it was actually my voice-over agents who tracked me down because they know I’m really interested in doing cartoons and other voiceover work.

GameSpy: Except that this isn’t a voiceover job, you’re actually on-camera. Did that aspect of things matter?

Jennifer Morrison: No, I like to do everything. I like mixing it up, that’s my biggest thing. I like doing things that are different from each other. So for me, a big part of the appeal was that she wasn’t Cameron [Dr. Allison Cameron, Jennifer's character on "House"]. Cameron is a very different person from Kirce. So it didn’t matter whether it was voiceover or live action, it was more about getting to create a character who was different.

GameSpy: And getting to work with the “Battlestar Galactica” ladies.

Jennifer Morrison: Yeah, exactly. Though I didn’t get to do any scenes with them!

GameSpy: Did you at least get to meet them?

Jennifer Morrison: No, I didn’t. Some day.

GameSpy: So have you had a chance to see the game since its release?

Jennifer Morrison: I haven’t. We just wrapped on “House” for the season, so I’m just now getting to do the things I never have time to do, and one of those things is playing the game. But I have seen all the videos that are online, which are really, really cool, I feel so lucky to be a part of it.

GameSpy: Since, as you said, you often watch your brother play games, you know that some female characters don’t wear the most, uh, demure of outfits. Were you ever worried that when you walked onto the C&C3 set that wardrobe would hand you a tiny gold bikini?

Jennifer Morrison: Ha! I didn’t really think of that. I probably should have. That would’ve been an interesting character choice. Though I also knew it was a military-based character, so I assumed I’d be wearing something more than a bikini. Though it wouldn’t have been an issue for me if it fit the game. If it fits in with the game and that world, then that’s the character you’re playing. But if it had been out of place or weird, then I might have questioned it.

GameSpy: How did filming your scenes for the game compare to shooting “House”?

Jennifer Morrison: Well, I did so much so fast. I think that was the crazy thing; we did everything in one day. The pace was pretty phenomenal. By the end of the day I couldn’t see straight. Also, working alone was interesting because I don’t interact with any other characters, I’m just interacting with the player. Which involves staring at the camera, which you usually don’t do.

GameSpy: So when you went to shoot “House” the next day, did you have to stop yourself from staring at the camera? Jennifer Morrison: No, luckily that didn’t happen. Though I think if we had shot for a couple days, I might’ve had that problem.

GameSpy: Were any of your House-mates jealous that you’re in a game and they’re not?

Jennifer Morrison: I don’t know if they even know I did it.

GameSpy: You didn’t come in the next day wearing a Command & Conquer 3 t-shirt?

Jennifer Morrison: No. Though Jesse [Spencer, Jennifer's co-star and fianc¿] was definitely jealous. He would love, love to do a video game. As soon as I told him, he was like, “That’s not fair! I want to do a video game!”

GameSpy: Now you mentioned that you’re not a big gamer these days. Were you ever?

Jennifer Morrison: Yeah, we used to have an Atari, so I used to play a lot of Space Invaders, Frogger, and Pac-man. But I’m really intrigued by the Wii. I definitely want to get one of those.
